Hub Azul Portugal Visits LHEEA Nantes to Strengthen International Collaboration in Ocean Research

Reading time ~1 minute

In April, a delegation from Hub Azul Portugal visited LHEEA Nantes – the Hydrodynamics, Energy and Atmospheric Environment Research Laboratory, founded in 1977 and located on the École Centrale Nantes campus. The visit is part of the network’s ongoing efforts to benchmark international best practices and foster sustainable ocean innovation.

LHEEA, a leading European centre for ocean research, expanded in 2001 with the Centrale Nantes Testing Facilities (Bassins d’Essais de Centrale Nantes), including a large-scale wave and current generation basin managed by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians. Today, the laboratory employs 142 professionals and serves as a benchmark for ocean research across Europe.

During the visit, Hub Azul Portugal representatives had the opportunity to learn about LHEEA’s management models, service offerings, and sustainability strategies, while exploring potential future collaborations. The exchange focused on the importance of connecting with similar international infrastructures, including ocean basins and biobanks, whose activities align closely with the network’s goals.
