Hub Azul Portugal recognised as a European example in the Blue Economy

The Hub Azul Portugal Network, in conjunction with Fórum Oceano, was highlighted as a benchmark example in the European Blue Economy during BlueInvest Day, the leading European event dedicated to investment, innovation and competitiveness in the blue sector.

Recognition of the Portuguese model

In the panel ‘Boosting Competitiveness and Private Investment in the EU Blue Economy’, moderated by Daniel Cedola (Partner at PwC), the Hub Azul Portugal model was recognised for its integrated and results-oriented approach.

Michael W., from Planet Ocean Fund, highlighted the relevance of the Portuguese strategy, advocating its replication in other countries as a way to accelerate private investment and competitiveness in the Blue Economy. This view was reinforced by Andreea Strachinescu, from the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), who highlighted Portugal as a success story with potential for adaptation on a European scale.

This recognition represents a particularly important moment for Portugal and for the work carried out by the Portugal Blue Hub Network in promoting innovation, investment and competitiveness within the Blue Economy.

The panel also featured contributions from:

  • Rosario Ruiloba, Unseenlabs.

The interventions reinforced the importance of collaborative models, effective public policies and innovative financing mechanisms to consolidate the Blue Economy as an engine for sustainable growth in Europe.
