The Hub Azul Peniche took a significant step forward in strengthening international cooperation by establishing a partnership with the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES), through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL). The ceremony took place in Brazil and is a significant milestone for the internationalisation of the Hub Azul Portugal Network.
Cooperation for innovation and technological development
This agreement reinforces the Hub Azul Portugal Network’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and technological development, creating a structured framework for collaboration between the two institutions. The partnership will enable the development of joint initiatives in several strategic areas of the Blue Economy.
The main areas of cooperation include:
- Academic mobility, through the exchange of teachers, students and researchers, including the possibility of dual degree programmes recognised by both institutions;
- Joint research projects, with the sharing of human resources, infrastructure and technical means;
- International cooperation, promoting the strengthening of institutional relations and the creation of new global partnerships;
- Capacity building, ensuring the training and continuous updating of professionals and students in the areas of research, pedagogical innovation and technological development.
Institutional presence and international framework
The signing of the agreement was attended by Sérgio Leandro, Director of the School of Tourism and Marine Technology at IP Leiria and Scientific Coordinator of Hub Azul Peniche, who emphasised the strategic importance of this partnership for the development of the Peniche Hub and for the international recognition of the network.
This moment is particularly noteworthy in the context of the event ‘The Blue Economy and the Capixaba Scenario’, which is taking place in the City of Innovation and promotes dialogue between academia, government, industry and society, with the aim of building more sustainable and innovative solutions for the future of the Blue Economy.

With this partnership, the Hub Azul Peniche reaffirms its role as a platform for international cooperation, contributing to the strengthening of ties between Portugal and Brazil and to the positioning of the Hub Azul Portugal Network as an active agent in promoting a sustainable, innovative and globally connected Blue Economy.
