Hub Azul Portugal present at Business2Sea Matosinhos 2024

On 14 and 15 November, Hub Azul Portugal attended the 12th edition of Business2Sea, the leading Blue Economy event in Portugal, organised by Fórum Oceano, with the support of Matosinhos City Council and APDL – Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo (Port Authority of the Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo). The event took place at the Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões and focused on the theme of ‘Digitalisation and Ocean Renewable Energy’.

Hub Azul as a catalyst for investment in the Portuguese Sea

As part of the event, Hub Azul Portugal participated in the panel ‘Hub Azul: Innovation Ecosystem Catalyst for Investment in the Portuguese Sea’, where the strategic role of innovation in the development and enhancement of the Portuguese Sea was discussed.

During the session, new approaches and opportunities were explored in key areas such as aquaculture, ocean renewable energy and human capital formation, recognised as fundamental to the consolidation of an innovation ecosystem capable of attracting investment, talent and new opportunities for the Blue Economy.

A panel with diverse and complementary contributions

The panel was moderated by Gonçalo Faria, Lead Manager of Hub Azul Portugal, and included the participation of:

  • João Galante, Hub Azul Leixões 2;
  • Ana Clara Simões, Hub Azul School / FOR-MAR;
  • Paulo Serra Lopes, AVOS;
  • Ana Catarina Guedes, ISS – Ínclita Seaweed Solutions.

The interventions reflected the diversity and complementarity of the Hub Azul ecosystem, highlighting the contribution of research, training, industry and entrepreneurship to the sustainable growth of the Blue Economy.

Collaboration for a sustainable Blue Economy

With a full and diverse audience, composed of investors, research centres, universities and public and private entities, the debate reinforced the importance of a collaborative, innovative and results-oriented approach as a key factor in consolidating the sustainable growth of the Blue Economy in Portugal.

Hub Azul Portugal thus reaffirms its commitment to leading innovation and catalysing investment in the blue sector, promoting cooperation between the different players in the ecosystem and contributing to positioning Portugal at the forefront of solutions for the dual energy and digital transition.
